There’s no shortage of advice out there for coaches.

From scripts to swipe files, from morning routines and must-have tools. To the next best thing that all coaches must have. And while some of it is useful, a lot of it is just noise, especially when you’re knee-deep in client work and trying to grow a real, human-centered practice. And still keep in line with what’s on trend, and any shiny new distraction that your clients are going to ask about.

What actually works? Sit down for this one. It’s not hard to do. It’s on the EASY list.

And it’s most likely the reason we have 2 ears and 1 mouth.
Listening. Like really listening. The kind where you’re not preparing your next question while they’re still mid-sentence. The kind where you aren’t following a pre determined script to the letter. No room for curiosity.

Clients can usually feel the difference. And so can you.

What else works that’s not flashy or sexy? Consistency. Not flashy-win-at-all-costs consistency, the kind that isn’t sustainable, but the kind of consistency that says, “I’ll show up the same way every time — grounded, curious, and in service.” That is what builds trust over time. It also makes your work feel less like a performance and more like a practice.

Less pressure, more purpose.

What doesn’t work? Copying someone else’s coaching voice or methods, hoping it will land the same for your practice. Your clients came for you, not a polished version of someone else. If you’re doing the work yourself (such as reflecting, getting coached, being honest) it’s going to show in your sessions.
